"We went to Vivian's tonight and we knew we'd be back some day before we left. Everything was fabulous! I had the catfish with collared greens and mac & cheese. My wife had the meatloaf with green beans and potatoes. We kept sampling from each other because it was all irresistible. The staff that was on hand tonight was super friendly, too. "I’ve eaten at Vivian’s in their old location, and again at their new location. I’ve tasted southern food from Tenessee, South Carolina and I’m missing home made food from Louisiana. This small restaurant in Cedar Rapids does not fall behind any of the cozy, home made restaurants in the south, or DC. Their collard greens, yams, fried chicken, and ribs are five stars. They also have a very kind staff. The only thing is they cook slow which is also a compliment to their food. Highly recommend it" – Nuno Almeida

"If you are a fan of a true, traditional soul food restaurant, such as you would find in a big city like Chicago, New York, or D.C., you need to check this place out. Most restaurants in Cedar Rapids are all hype. They get good reviews, but disappoint. This place is really great. As you can see, I had the fried chicken with collards and mac and cheese. It was hard to decide what to get. The whole menu looked good! The chicken was perfection. The sides were exactly what I was hoping for. I can't say enough good things about this place. There's not a thing that wasn't perfect. The prices are reasonable, and the menu is big enough to provide a good selection, but small enough that you can see everything must be freshly made. "The owners were very nice and accommodated my large group for graduation, which I was very grateful for. I ate here once before and I wanted to ensure that my family had a good meal before we headed back home. There were absolutely no complaints from anyone in my family.
